100m: I'm gonna wreck it! [Action]

[Action (1)]

[This nine-foot tall, barefoot giant of a man finds himself waking up in any old house or apartment, maybe even in the forest. Completely oblivious to the pink wings on his back for now, he instead comes to attention and begins looking around in confusion.]

What? Where's... No! I can't have been taken to another game. I... I was right there! I was gonna save- I... [And his voice goes soft.] Vanellope...

[His eyes are close for a moment, mournfully. When they open, they're filled with hurt anger. And his unusually massive fists are soon put to work... wrecking his immediate surroundings in an angry tantrum, while he shouts loudly. He could keep going until there's nothing left. He will hold himself back from hurting actual people, but he will at least shove aside those who get in his way at emotional heights.]

[Later on, after being calmed from his tantrum, Ralph trudges through town, defeated and feeling ashamed. First day in a new game and already he's been playing the bad guy. So he makes his way through the item and clothing shops, finding one item in the former which gives him a strong, bittersweet feeling, and then he makes his way out of the village. He only stops at Good Spirits for a round of root beers, trying to keep to himself. That evening, with a sack of bricks over his shoulder, he seeks a nice stump to sleep against, in between bouts of the freezing rain.]

[ Half a shrug. ] I've done simulations in the battle dome here? I dunno if that's the same thing, though.

What's a glitch? [ Soren's never known his own world, so. ...But yeah, losing trainers one after the other sucks. He's getting a complex about it, which mostly involves keeping a close eye on the one he has. ]

It's okay, though. I got to meet my grandpa. And yeah! There's a rec center. There's some arcade games there, I think - I never really go there. [ she's usually too busy with all her other activities, but she knows where it is! ] Want to go there now?

Simulations, huh? Sounds kinda similar. Nifty mini-game.

A glitch is a character who's not working right for some reason. Something in the code. But it keeps them stuck in one game. No way out. [And his expression sinks slightly as he says this.]

Yeah, kid. Take me there. You're gonna learn some arcade games.

[ ...you know what she just gives up on trying to protest this isn't a game. B| ]

Oh. That's sad. [ She means it, too. It sounds sad. It's not something that is an actual thing in her world, but...no one should get stuck somewhere. ]

Okay! We're going this way, then! [ Aaaaaaand she pulls out her journal as she turns around, jotting out a quick note to her grandparents about her change in plans. They get these periodically. Sometimes there are pictures drawn in, but this time she puts it back fairly quickly. ]

Just lead the way, then. Trust me, you're gonna love this stuff.

[ And off they go! Ikki clearly knows her way around town, and may wave to some people as she passes by, although she doesn't stop to chat, for the moment.

They should make it there pretty fast. She probably also utilizes short cuts indiscriminately. ]

[And so as Ralph is led into the rec center.]

So this is the place, huh? [A pause as he takes it all in. It's like... being at the arcade. From the outside. It's weird.]

Whoa...

[ Well, it's pretty cool, but Ikki doesn't get all the meta feelings Ralph is undoubtedly feeling, so she just peers around, cheerful. ]

Yep! This is it. Some people spend more time here than others...

[He quickly scans the area, taking note of each and every arcade game there, familiar or otherwise. He only frowns when he realizes there's no Sugar Rush.

But he looks down towards Ikki and points her towards the Miss Pac-Man arcade. And Pac-Man is in a nearby corner.]

There! Miss Pac-Man. That'll be a good one to start off with. Everyone loves that game!

If she's a Miss how come she's ALSO a man?

[ But yeah she'll follow Ralph, curious. ]

It's... because she's married! I think. To Pac-Man. It's complicated. [And he pats the machine as they approach it.] And this is it, kid. Wow, no quarters? These games must really be living the life.

What's a quarter? Is there supposed to be four of them?

[ WHAT IS YOUR AMERICAN MONEY. ]

What? No. The quarter's a kind of money that's a coin, and arcade games usually run on them. But these are for free. They must never get unplugged. [A real shame there's no Sugar Rush.]

I dunno, you'd have to ask whoever looks after 'em. But there's no money in Luceti, so it wouldn't make sense for these to need that!

That's great. [He says with a real smile.] Now how about we get you set up with this game.

Okay! ...So what am I doing here.

[ seriously what ]

[He takes a moment to look it over.]

Huh. That's actually a good question. I'm not really used to being on this side of it. But you gotta... look at the screen and you gotta control that yellow character. If I remember right... you have to eat all the pellets and avoid the ghosts. [And he pokes at the joystick.] This looks like it does something...

[ W o w Ralph, helpful. But Ikki pokes the joystick, too, and at least guesstimates that hitting the start button will presumably...start things. 8| ]

[He looks the screen.]

I think it's starting. Make her go!

[This has to be easier than teaching Vanellope the controls of her kart... right?]

[ Okay, so...the stick thingy tilts and she makes the little figure thingy move in the direction the stick goes! Okay!

She can totally do this! Oh

what just happened here

Yep she just got eaten by a ghost that did not take long at all what. ]

Not... not bad, kid! For your first try, that was kinda good! [Coming from someone who's seen more than his fair share of newbie mistakes over the years.] How about you try again? [He doesn't realize he's smiling.]

[ See, Ralph? You're not so bad.

...Yeah Ikki's pretty bad at this game, though. She gets a little bit further this time before getting cornered by two of the ghosts. HOW DO THEY DO THAT ] ...Sorry, Miss Pac Man!

[ well Ralph said he came from a game so logically she's basically hurting someone in there right? ]

It's okay. It doesn't really hurt. They're just going through the motions. Now, try to get to one of those flashing dots and see what happens.

[ Okay following the directions. OH HEY, that did something!!!! Ralph gets a grin. ]

Now we're talking, kid! Now you get to chase the ghosts 'til they get their color back!

So they can't hurt me 'till they do?!

[ yesssssssss take her pacmanish fury you fiends! ]
