[Wreck-It Ralph gets up to another daily routine he's settled into, living on the first floor of Community House 7. He makes sure the kid's awake and okay, then he heads over to the community kitchen to down an entire gallon of milk. And eventually, he manages to split off from Vanellope long enough to find somewhere quiet to address the journals.

He'd been avoiding using the journals too much since he arrived. After all, anyone could recognize him as the bad guy or have sore feelings from the wreckage he caused when he first arrived here in Luceti. But he'd have to face them sooner or later, with that whole Christmas thing coming up. First, there was that Secret Santa thing to worry about. He was assigned someone named "Harry Dresden". And he had no idea who that was. And secondly? There was something he needed to do for the kid for Christmas, too. He'd need all the help he could with that one.

But first? He'd have to face the music. And that meant showing his face on the journals.]

Uh, hey... everybody. All you... Luceti guys. A lot of you may recognize me from that, uh, wrecking I did a few weeks back. Or you might recognize me from that video game, Fix-It Felix Junior. [A small frown; he hasn't met anyone familiar with the game yet here.] Either way, I wanna apologize for, y'know... getting off on the wrong foot with you all. I was in kind of a dark place, and really confused... but long story short, I'm feeling a lot better now! Things are going really good. You don't have to worry about me wrecking things and being "the bad guy" anymore. [He says that complete with finger quotes.] Unless you need one, in which case I guess I could try fitting it into my schedule? My name's Ralph by the way. Wreck-It Ralph. [A pause. He tries waving with one of his giant hands, but his brow furrows with confusion.] Do any of you know my game?

I got two unrelated questions for you guys. Now, this doesn't have anything to do with Christmas or anything. But... first of all, is there anyone here who's an expect at this Battle Dome stuff? I need someone who can help me put together a really, super specific simulation for - uh, for a thing. If you know a lot about go-karts, that's a plus.

Oh! And my second question. Who the heck's Harry Dresden?

First time for everything! I've never really played one myself - only been inside it.

Inside it? [She echoes the word with some confusion.] A computer program? An AI? [She's starting to get excited. The thought of meeting a sentient, working, AI...]

I'm a video game character, yeah, if that's what you're getting at. My I's a little A, but I like to think I got it all together.

Amazing! Something like that is still beyond our technology in my world! [Be careful, Ralph; she may never let go.] I'd like to hear more about it. [Er, after she helps. She promises.]

[It's definitely different from the other reactions he's gotten; he blinks at her.]

What, you guys don't have video games? I'm not different from any other character in a video game. This is pretty boring stuff, honestly. But I'll tell you whatever you want if you help me out here.

We have video games, but... There's no way to meet the characters! [You know, aside from the usual assortment of performances with actors playing the roles.]

There isn't where I come from, either! The customers aren't supposed to know that we, y'know, have lives when there's no one around to play or watch us.

[She's never... thought of that before. Though she vaguely remembers hearing the world some of her friends from back home came from was slightly different, and even had a Sailor V video game like that.]

Amazing. But... does that mean you play the game on your own? What the player does doesn't matter?

Not exactly. The player matters. Basically, when the player is in control, it's like we're all doing our jobs. We follow our programs - the playable character follows the controls, the bad guys attack and the non-playable characters do their lines. And once the players are gone? That's free time for ourselves. We can do what we want and even visit other games, at least 'til it's time for the arcade to re-open.

It sounds a little like being an actor.

[She never thought about a video game that way before. The characters are just... programs, aren't they? Lines of code. But in a world where the Malnosso believe they have the right to treat everyone here as their toys and puppets, she doesn't make the mistake of looking down on 'programs'.]

Actually, it sounds exciting. I wish I could try it just for a little while.

I guess you could say it's like that. Some people just really are like the parts they play.

Really? It's not all that glamorous. But I got no idea how to make it happen. I mean, this simulation I'm thinking of will be recreating a video game, but it won't really be the same thing.

No. [And Ami smiles at her thought:] This time, you'll be able to be the player.

Now there's a threshold I never thought I'd cross. But I guess it'd also be like running a minigame. So you got what it takes to help me with this?

I'm not an expert, but I've taken computer classes at cram school when I was younger, and I've kept it up as a hobby on my own.

[Real translation: Yes. Let's do this.]

Let's start, then. How familiar are you with the system here already?

Well, that's more experience than me. I'm not so familiar at all. I took a look at the controls but never really tried to... make something. That dude who showed it to me, Obi, he had something already set up that he just... booted up.

So you know how to load a program once it's completed. Good. Let's start with the game specifics, then. You said a racing game. What does it need to have included?

Okay. It's like a game with little carts that... kid-sized characters can ride. Really simple karts, only three floor buttons. The complicated part? Well, the karts and... the entire landscape? They all gotta be made of junk food.

That won't be a problem. It's just a question of the graphics. How about...

[There's a vague, general Candyland backdrop that she calls up as a starting point.] this? We can work from here to begin with.

[He points with subdued excitement.]

Yeah, yeah, that's good! That kinda looks like it. [He then scratches his head as he tries to remember more details worth mentioning.]

[There are notable differences, of course; but they can refine it if that matters too much. Ami's smile broadens as she catches Ralph's enthusiasm.]

This is sort of exciting to do. Let's see... the cars should be the same. We just need recolors on top of normal racing-game cars.

Whatever works, wiz kid. Most of 'em look kinda... gingerbready. With cookie wheels and all, usually covered with some kinda candy and frostings. But- oh right! There's one kart that has to look very specific.

[He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a very crumbled sheet of paper where he's drawn this from memory. It's very sloppy, but just clear enough to make out most of the different parts. Plus there are little helpful notes and arrows. He clearly remembered what it looked like in great detail. And he holds the note out to Ami.]

[It's a mess, like someone let their young daughter do the decorating 'all by herself'. But there's no trace of mockery in Ami's smile. Instead, it's fond.]

It looks perfect. It must be important to you. [Or... a daughter? A friend?]

["I love it".]

It's junk. But... there's a kid it means the world to. That's all. [And it is really important to him, too.] Not that I care that much or anything.

[Ralph, that is something you should care about very much. So it's good Ami doesn't quite buy that line. Not when Ralph's going to so much trouble to make this perfect for 'that kid'.]

We'll make sure it's everything your friend will hope for.

[He hesitates for a moment before answering with a genuine smile.]
